Research:

Beginning & Ideate:
How can we minimize the bad experience users get when they encounter "404 Not Found"? This case study answers this question a little forward in the Result section. My objective in reviewing ideas on this page was to find which idea received the most positive feedback and the most impact on our data. so that we could design the visuals, consider the UX Writing and sort the page content around that idea. Among all the ideas, the most logical idea I came up with was:
Placing the "videos recommendation" row on our 404 page.
but the question was, should videos on this page choose randomly? Should they be based on user interest? Or even a combination of trending videos and user interests? This was the question we decided to conduct the A/B test.

Let’s get back on the track:

Result & Test:

A/B Test:
In addition, we also thought that if all of the videos displayed to the user were from videos similar to what they searched for (B), we would probably get better feedback than before in reducing the exit rate, so we conducted an AB test. The result was contrary to what we thought. Not only was it not positive, but also it declined! but why?A closer look at users' data and traffic sources revealed that 75% of people who encounter a 404 page come through search engines (Google) and 25% through direct traffic.
Conclusion:
Well, How can we minimize the bad experience users get when they encounter "404 Not Found"?
Here are the factors that can help you through the solving this problem.1- Minimize the user's discomfort and confusion in order to reduce the number of users leaving the website (bounce rate):
- It is better to empathize with the user and let him know that you are aware and sorry that this problem occurs.
- Try to write the reason why the user landed on this page or mention some possible reasons.
- Be funny and be sure to use creativity and visual element in designing this page in the simplest way, in addition, try to add a little humor to your design.
2- Persuade users to do something else:
Not just getting them out of the way, but helping them find other similar content on your website. The search box display is suitable for content-based products, such as blogs, video sharing, etc. and the better idea is to use content similar to what the user is looking for, such as placing a row of similar articles or videos in front of the user to persuade the user to stay on the website!
